Equality and diversity policy statement
ACER is committed to equal opportunities and valuing diversity not only in its employment policies but also in carrying out all its activities and functions. ACER accepts and recognises its obligations as determined by current legislation that makes it unlawful to discriminate on grounds of gender, age, disability, marital status, race, nationality or ethnic origin, grounds of sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs and unrelated criminal convictions. ACER is actively committed to the development of positive policies to promote equality of opportunity in delivering its services and will ensure that all publicity and marketing materials are reviewed to ensure that it does not reinforce stereotypes.
ACER is committed to the following principles:
- No employee or job applicant will be discriminated against on the grounds of gender, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, race, colour, nationality, creed, ethnic or national origins, or political or religious belief.
- All staff are asked to understand their equal opportunity rights and responsibilities in relation to ACER as a whole and their own job in particular. Anti-discriminatory training will be offered, from time to time, undertaken by appropriate trainers.
- ACER will actively encourage staff development and progression for all employees based on achievable objectives and action that is planned and reviewed.
- The qualifications and experience required of applicants for a job will be those necessary to perform that job.
- Commitment to the principles and practice of equal opportunities will be part of the person specification for all jobs at ACER.
- Action will be taken to provide increased employment opportunity for people with disabilities and to provide continued opportunities for existing employees who develop a disability.
- Flexible working and home working will be agreed in accordance with the Employment Act 2003 and 2007, whenever possible and practical for the organisation.
- As a provider of services ACER will endeavour to ensure that all its services and products reflect equality and diversity principles. When working in partnership with other organisations ACER will ensure that partners adopt a similar approach and adhere to an equal opportunities policy.
